Opera software. Maybe there’s some among you that don’t know about opera software. Some would say “opera soft? do you mean opera browser?”. Yes, Opera browser is one of the product from Opera software. It’s among the best browser in the world right now. in my opinion, it’s fast and beautiful. I like the mouse gestures, speed dial, and the download manager feature. It’s all in one. Actually, i would like to always use it for browsing internet, but there’s some problem with few websites, such as meebo and ebuddy, that can’t shows the page very well, at least with the opera browser v 9.6 that i use right now. And that’s a problem. because as a YM user, my campus *i don’t know why or how* blocking the YM apps from yahoo!. There’s indeed some alternative . But i like to use ebuddy the most so.. well that’s only some personal preferences. So i still using Firefox (actually it’s what i like the most,IMHO..
)
Enough about that
. There’s a huge event which held by opera right now. They call it Opera Software University Tours. It’s a tour through the university at the entire world by opera that have a goal to introduce opera web standard curriculum, a study guide for complete understanding about web design and basic development. It’s a part of operas program called “opera and the web”. For better information and understanding, just go to the opera education web
.
It’s pretty fortunate for us at ITTelkom, that opera planned to held the seminar at ITTelkom as a part of the tour in Indonesia. It was open for all people but the quota is just for 230 people (which is sold out at a mere couple minutes). We, the Computer & Communication labz, electrical department of ITTelkom, take the opportunity and given the responsibility by the opera indonesian intern, Putri, to organizing the seminar at our campus. She had contacted the ITTelkom’s head of informatics dept and head of electro dept (as far as i know and CMIIW) and had receive no response. i don’t know the faculty was being busy or what, but the opportunity almost gone. It’s fortunate that one of our crew, have a friend that being friend with putri. And so on and so on..
. As the one who just only heard about it, i don’t know the very detail
.
Anyway. After some tiring weeks for the commitee preparing the seminar, with some disturbance with the rectorate,D building, thanks to the procedure and the unhelpfulness (ofcourse, thank you very very much to head of electro department and everyone who help for the willingness to help us), the seminar is successful. The speaker, Mr. Bruce Lawson, Mr. Zibin Cheah, and Ms Putri told us a very interesting topic about the current and future open web standard, the browser industry, and web and mobile browsing at the developing countries. Ofcourse, the info about the campus crew and the opera software internship program too is really caught the attention
. I think almost all of the people at the seminar registering for that program
(that’s including me
).
All speakers are soo friendly. It’s nice to know them, and it’s a shame that i only talk a little with them. This is a little about them (i found this at kaskus.us) :
- Bruce Lawson is a Web Evangelist for Opera. His main interests are how the Web can improve the lives of people with disbilities and in developing countries. He’s been involved in promoting Web Standards since 2001, and works with the Web Standards Project. He co-wrote the industry standard book on web accessibility and is currently on the committee drafting the forthcoming British standard for commissioning accessible web sites. He’s very much looking forward to trying authentic nasi goreng.
- Zi Bin Cheah is a Web Evangelist. His main interests are Standards, Web2.0, Mobile Internet and Security. He is now focusing on Web evangelism in China and South East Asia.
One thing that i don’t know, is whether Mr.Bruce already taste the authentic nasi goreng or not
.
Some photos from the seminar,

We all CnC crew and ITTelkom thank for everyone who help and attend the seminar. And we’re really sorry to Mr.Zibin because the Commitee T-Shirt is sold out
. We sincerely hope you enjoy your stay and tour at Indonesia and have a nice nasi goreng ehehehe…
